On February 12, 2015 SIM held a “Analytics & Business Intelligence” panel discussion at the Madison Hotel in Morristown NJ. Joe DeSiena, President of Consulting Services at Bardess Group Ltd. and an Executive Committee Trustee of NJ SIM, was the event moderator leading an interactive discussion around the evolving landscape of the Business Intelligence marketplace. Panel members discussed how Data Discovery tools like QlikView, Tableau, and Spotfire are creating self-service reporting platforms for business users freeing IT to focus on critical data quality and governance issues and opening the door for Big Data applications. The event included 60 IT executives with interest in implementing these solutions in their corporations. The focus of the discussion was on how these top Data Discovery tools compare to traditional BI – the complexities of deployment and the resultant benefits achieved.
From the SIMNJ event summary:
In the current business climate, we tend to latch onto popular phrases like “Big Data”, “Nexus of Forces”, or “Internet of Things”. These are not new concepts as certain industries have been dealing with large volumes of data for years. Data volume is just one component of a sound analytics strategy. Our diverse panel, moderated by an Analytics veteran, is designed to provide a view into Analytics and Business Intelligence through multiple lenses including: IT Leader, CFO, Analytics Strategist/Futurist, Data Scientist, and CMO. You will leave with new insights for creating a sound analytics strategy for today, tomorrow, and well into the digital future.
